SEATTLE — Just in case the Seahawks need additional motivation before Sunday’s NFC championship, famous sports writer and podcaster Bill Simmons seemingly forgot that the Seattle franchise has a Super Bowl title to its name.

If that’s not a sign that a championship ring is long overdue, then I don’t know what is.

Simmons, who is the founder and CEO of The Ringer, went live on the “Bill Simmons Podcast” Sunday night and said that “Seattle has never won a Super Bowl,” skipping over the team’s win 12 years ago in Super Bowl XLVIII.

The Seahawks, under head coach Pete Carroll and led by quarterback Russell Wilson, dominated Peyton Manning’s Denver Broncos, 43-8, at MetLife Stadium in 2014, recording the Super Bowl’s biggest upset win by a betting underdog. Seattle returned to the Super Bowl the following year, falling to Tom Brady’s New England Patriots, 28-24.

“I made a horrible error in Sunday’s podcast,” Simmons, 56, said Tuesday on his podcast. “I just want to talk it out. I feel like I’ve been in a really good spot with the Seattle sports fan bases (until now) … You could say I’m old. I would go with ‘brain fart’ … I’m here to ask for forgiveness.”

Since 2015 and until Saturday’s 41-6 blowout win against the San Francisco 49ers, the furthest the Seahawks had advanced in the playoffs was the divisional round.

They will now host the Los Angeles Rams in the Conference Championship on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. PT, hoping to punch their ticket to Super Bowl LX.

Simmons also came under fire last week for risking jinxing the Seahawks’ playoff run.

“If I’m Seattle, and I’m their fans, (then) this is it, man,” Simmons posted to X on Friday. “This is now lined up to win the Super Bowl … I just feel like this is laid out for them.”

Of the several users who found Simmons’ statement to be damning, NFL analyst Mina Kimes responded, “Delete this NOW.”

The Seahawks are favored by 2.5 points and are -155 on the money line for the NFC title, according to DraftKings Sportsbook odds as of Wednesday afternoon.
