One run enough for Nick Pivetta, two relievers as Padres take series against Nationals

SAN DIEGO — The Padres did not do much on offense Wednesday.
But their new-look lineup — their second shook-up batting order in four games — had the right guy up at the right time.
And they had the right guy on the mound.
Luis Arraez, batting leadoff for the first time since April 9, grounded a single through the left side of the infield in the second inning to drive in the game’s only run in a 1-0 victory over the Nationals.
Good Nick Pivetta, the one who has mostly made himself at home in Petco Park, struck out 10 and allowed three hits while throwing the first seven innings. Jeremiah Estrada worked the eighth. Adrián Morejón worked a 1-2-3 the ninth in place of closer Robert Suarez, who on Wednesday began serving his two-game suspension for hitting the Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani with a pitch six days earlier.
The victory earned the Padres their second consecutive series win, as they finished 4-2 on their homestand against the Royals and Nationals.
