South Florida doctor/attorney joins race for Cherfilus-McCormick's House seat

MIAMI — The race for the U.S. House of Representatives seat held by Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick grew again Monday when doctor and attorney Rudolph Moise announced his candidacy.
Moise’s announcement comes the day after community activist and former rap star Luther Campbell announced he would run for Florida’s 20th Congressional District seat. The primary will be Aug. 18.
“I am running for Congress because I believe deeply in the promise of this country,” said the announcement by Moise, also a former Air Force Reserve colonel. “As a physician, I have seen firsthand the inequities in our healthcare system. As a colonel, I understand leadership, discipline, and sacrifice. And as an immigrant, I understand what it means to fight for opportunity.”
The district covers Central and Western Broward County, Central and Western Palm Beach County, as well as some parts of Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and all of Riviera Beach. Campbell called temporary protected status (TPS) “the most pressing issue” in the district, which has significant Haitian populations in cities such as Lauderhill, Lauderdale Lakes and Riviera Beach.
Moise, 71, was born in Port-au-Prince, came to the United States at 17 and began piling up degrees — medical from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, an MBA and a law degree at the University of Miami. He put the medical training to use for 21 years as a U.S. Air Force flight surgeon, eventually rising to be the first Haitian American Air Force Reserve colonel.
Moise gained his Florida license as an osteopathic physician in 1982 and joined the Florida Bar in 1998. Online Florida Department of Health and Florida Supreme Court records show a pair of clean professional disciplinary records.
State records list Moise as the manager of Comprehensive Health Centers in North Miami and Orlando, and the company website lists him as a provider in both locations.
