Gadgets: Tech accessories to improve your life
Published in Science & Technology News
Satechi, a company focused on creating tech accessories that work great, look great and improve people's lives, has a few new products out meeting those goals.
The 7-in-1 USB-C Multiport Adapter ($59.99), part of the Satechi OntheGo Collection for mobile connectivity, offers seven of the most popular ports for connecting just about anything from anywhere. The device makes what used to be a complex process to set up a workstation quick and simple.
The hockey puck-shaped hub (2.6 inches round by 1 inch high/2.40 ounces) includes a built-in USB-C host cable for connecting and powering the hub. Around the outside are ports, including two USB-A ports with transfer speeds up to 5GB per second and one USB-C port with 100-watt input and up to 80-watt output power delivery. It also includes an SD memory card reader, a microSD card reader (up to 2TB), one HDMI 2.0 port and a single Gigabit Ethernet port to support 10/100/1000 Mbps.
For stability, the adapter hub has a magnetic mount and includes a 3M Adhesive Ring to attach and secure the adapter to your device. The 7-in-1 OntheGo USB-C Multiport Adapter is Mac- and Windows-compatible; a full list of supported devices is available on the Satechi website.
Satechi also recently announced several new Thunderbolt 5 devices, including the Thunderbolt 5 Pro Cable. It is designed for professionals whose workflow demands faster speeds and performance, all in one cable.
The Thunderbolt 5 Pro Cable ($39.99) has been tested for speeds up to 120 Gb/s uni-directional or 80 Gb/s bi-directional, and up to 240 watts of power delivery, according to Satechi. It is compatible with Thunderbolt 4, 3 and USB-C devices as well as future-ready connectivity.

Status Audio’s new Pro X true wireless earbuds feature impressive sound, powered by a Knowles-Powered hybrid triple-driver acoustic system.
Inside each earbud is a 12 mm dynamic driver with two Knowles balanced armature drivers. What translates to users is accurate, as Status Audio describes it: deep, controlled bass, crystal-clear mids and detailed highs that bring music to life across genres.
My New Year's Day testing had me use the ergonomically designed earbuds for a college football bowl game, hours of listening to a year-in-review playlist, and, of course, light music while napping. The non-scientific test told me they are good for music junkies and casual listeners alike. The sound can be customized with the Status Hub companion app (iOS and Android).
The Active Noise-Cancelling earbuds performed well indoors and outdoors, reducing ambient noise by up to 52 dB. If you don’t want all external sounds removed, the Ambient Aware mode keeps enough sound to let you stay aware of your surroundings. Phone calls are crystal clear on both ends with AI-Powered Voiceloom Speech Enhancement and six Beam-Forming microphones.
The Pro X true wireless earbuds have a sharp-looking design with a black alloy finish and a small footprint, designed to sit flush against the ear and jawline. And I can confirm that the comfort was such that it lasted for hours of use. Silicone ear tips in S, M and L are included.
They have an IP55 water and dust-resistant rating, which will protect them from light rain. With Bluetooth 5.3, they have multipoint connectivity, Android Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair. A full charge supports up to 8 hours of playback, and the Qi wireless charging case gives you another 24 hours.
