Shouldn’t there be more emphasis on pointing people to see the reality of God’s gift to the world?

From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Q: Christmas is a day – a season – of beauty. While the holiday has become overly commercialized, surely the birth of Jesus was the inspiration for the beauty of this holiday that spreads its magic around the world. Shouldn’t there be more emphasis on pointing people to see the reality of God’s gift to the world? – C.S.

A: In a little town in the Middle East over 2,000 years ago, the prophecy in Micah 5:2 was fulfilled when God “was revealed in the flesh” (1 Timothy 3:16, NASB). This revelation came in the person of Jesus Christ. The Bible says about Christ, “In Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily” (Colossians 2:9, NKJV).

This revelation is the most complete God ever gave to the world. To know what God is like, look at the Babe born of the virgin Mary, by the power of God.

Nature has perfection and beauty; we see order and majesty in the physical world around us. All of these descriptions apply to Jesus Christ. In the working of our conscience and the magnificence of the written Scriptures, we find justice, mercy, grace, and love. These are attributes of Christ Jesus. “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14, NKJV).

He came to give, and through the gift of salvation, a transformed life is the greatest of all miracles. Every time a person is “born again” by repentance of sin and faith in Jesus Christ, the miracle of new life is realized. The heart of the Gospel, with its incarnation and atonement, is seen in His birth, life, and resurrection. Jesus was born to die so that we may live. He came to put a little bit of Heaven down in our souls even as we live.
