Kristen Bell is facing backlash over her anniversary tribute to husband Dax Shepard, thanking him for promising not to kill her.

On Friday, the “Nobody Wants This” actress commemorated their special day with an Instagram post of herself and Shepard paired with a controversial caption.

“Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: ‘I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would.’❤️”

Many commenters were angered by the remarks, noting that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

“Just an fyi, posting this caption during domestic violence awareness month is unbelievably tone deaf :/ please reconsider,” one user wrote.

Another critic said, “Thats a wildly sad and insensitive thing to say considering it’s domestic violence awareness month and thousands of women have died a the hands of the man they trusted.”

Someone else wrote, “That’s….a very weird thing to say.”

While many fans expressed their disapproval in the comments, some celebrities took it as a joke such as Shepard’s former “Parenthood” co-star Mae Whitman, who wrote, “Only because we’d never let him get away with it ❤️.”

Comedian Howie Mandel joked that “He should write for Hallmark,” while the official account for “Dateline” simply commented, “Screenshotted.”

The longtime couple met in 2007 and got engaged in 2009. They tied the knot in 2013 and have since welcomed two daughters: 12-year-old Lincoln and 11-year-old Delta.

At the season 2 premiere of “Nobody Wants This” on Thursday, Bell confessed that she had forgotten the anniversary when Entertainment Tonight asked what the couple had planned to celebrate the occasion.

“Oh my god! It’s my anniversary!” she responded to the reporter adding, “You know, I don’t remember that. Oh shoot. I’m so glad you told me.”

Bell continued, “It helps that he doesn’t remember either,” she said of her husband. “Like no one’s at fault here, right? We’re just not great with dates.”

Bell has not responded to the criticism concerning her post.
