A judge on Monday ruled that the Virginia woman accused of killing former Netflix star Sara Burack in a June Hamptons hit-and-run remain jailed on $100,000 cash bond after a grand jury indictment.

Amanda Kempton, 32, of Fairfax, Virginia, was indicted on one Class D felony count of leaving the scene of an incident resulting in death, the Suffolk County district attorney’s office announced Monday. She was arraigned before state Supreme Court Justice John Collins, who ordered her held on $100,000 cash, $200,000 bond or $1 million partially secured bond while the case was pending.

“Leaving the scene of a fatal collision makes a tragic situation even worse,” Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said in a statement. “Rather than rendering help to Ms. Burack, the defendant allegedly left her to die. This indictment is an important step toward justice for Sara and her loved ones.”

Burack, 40, was a popular luxury real estate agent on Long Island’s tony East End and had starred for a time on Netflix’s “Million Dollar Beach House.” She was walking west on West Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays at 2:26 a.m. on June 19 when Kempton allegedly struck her while driving a 2004 Toyota Highlander, the DA’s office said.

At 2:45 a.m. a passing motorist found Burack lying unconscious on the shoulder. First responders rushed her to Stony Brook University Hospital with severe injuries to her head, brain and liver, plus a broken leg, all indicating she’d been hit by a car. She was put on life support but died at about 3 p.m. that day.

Detectives from the Southampton Town Police Department who tracked the car down in Manorville found it had front-end damage and arrested Kempton on June 20. She pleaded not guilty and was released on $200,000 bond, saying through her lawyers that she thought she had hit a traffic cone, not a person. But evidence undermined that version of events, Tierney said Monday.

Burack had been toting a pink-wheeled suitcase that night, and it “allegedly became lodged underneath Kempton’s vehicle,” his office said. Kempton tried unsuccessfully to yank it out, then simply drove away dragging the luggage underneath her car. When she got to her destination, she tossed the suitcase and its contents into a local dumpster, Tierney said.

The Fairfax, Virginia, marine biologist faces a potential prison term of up to seven years if convicted. Her next scheduled court date is Nov. 20.
