DETROIT — Detroit director Lawrence Lamont's "One of Them Days," one of the year's biggest comic hits, is now streaming on Netflix.
The comedy stars Keke Palmer and SZA as Los Angeles roommates looking to come up with overdue rent money over the course of one crazy day in order to avoid eviction. Katt Williams, Lil Rel Howery, Maude Apatow and Gabrielle Dennis co-star.
The film was released in January to glowing reviews — it retains a 94% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes — and it opened at No. 2 at the box office, narrowly edged from the top spot by "Mufasa: The Lion King." It wound up earning $50 million at North American theaters, a healthy return on its reported $14 million budget.
"One of Them Days" is the debut feature from Lamont, who cut his teeth making music videos, including clips for Big Sean.
Lamont grew up on Detroit's East side and was a film buff at an early age, and was helped along in his love of the dramatic arts by Brenda Perryman, his drama teacher Southfield High School.
"One of Them Days" was shot in July 2024 on a tight 21-day schedule. Next up, Lamont says he wants to try his hand at a franchise.
"I want to do some action-comedy stuff, some big stuff," Lamont told The Detroit News in January. "I do have my eye on some IP, there's some stuff I really want to do."
"One of Them Days" arrived on Netflix on Monday. The movie is rated R for language, sexual material and brief drug use and runs 97 minutes.
