Washington State Department of Health warns of scam using old vaccine hotline number

SEATTLE — Scammers are using an old vaccine hotline number that once belonged to the Washington State Department of Health, the agency warned.
The scammers are using the number 833-VAX-HELP (833-829-4357) to try to collect personal information including bank account numbers, the agency said in a Facebook post. The health department will never ask for banking information.
The department is urging Washington residents not to call the number. It was previously used as the department’s hotline where residents could call about their vaccination records, but the state no longer owns the number.
Instead, call 1-866-397-0337 for vaccine information and assistance, the department said.
