Blues' point streak reaches seven following 3-2 overtime win against Oilers

ST. LOUIS — The Blues extended their point streak to seven games with a 3-2 overtime win against the Oilers on Friday night at Enterprise Center.
Robert Thomas scored the game-winning goal with 8.2 seconds remaining in overtime.
Cam Fowler scored the game-tying goal for the Blues with 3:46 left in the third period, finding the back of the net after Oskar Sundqvist won a faceoff.
Pius Suter also scored while Joel Hofer made 36 saves as the Blues are now 7-1-1 since returning from the Olympic break.
Kasperi Kapanen and Connor McDavid scored for the Oilers.
The Blues have not lost in regulation since Feb. 28 against the Devils.
Caught out
A confluence of events led to Kapanen's goal at 15:41 of the second period that gave Edmonton a 1-0 lead. Logan Mailloux's icing gave the Oilers an offensive zone draw, which led to an extended possession in the Blues' end.
By the time Leon Draisaitl spun a backhand pass from the corner to the opposite circle for Kapanen to bury, the Blues on the ice were exhausted. All five Blues were on the ice for at least 1:21, and Philip Broberg (1:54) and Jonatan Berggren (1:50) were nearing two-minute shifts.
The three Oilers that registered points on the goal were fresh: Kapanen (17 seconds), Draisaitl (18 seconds) and Vasily Podkolzin (24 seconds).
It was Kapanen's first goal against the Blues since they waived him last season. He was claimed by the Oilers, then re-signed in Edmonton for this season.
Kapanen's goal came after the Blues endured an extended period of time without a shot on goal. The Blues went 19:46 without a shot on goal — from Dylan Holloway's shot with 6:45 remaining in the first period until Jordan Kyrou's shot at 13:01 of the second period.
During that time, the Oilers had 11 shots on goal themselves.
No surprise
At 9:56 of the third period, McDavid gave the Oilers a 2-0 lead with an individual jaunt through the middle of the ice that ended with a shot fired into the top corner above Hofer. McDavid picked up speed in his own zone, then attacked rookie Theo Lindstein in transition before using Lindstein as a screen for his shot.
It was Lindstein's third career NHL game.
With Lindstein paired with Colton Parayko in all three games, it was inevitable that he would log minutes against other team's top players. Before the game, Montgomery said the Blues wanted to test him.
"We have so much confidence in Parry, the two of them, the way they skate and Parry's length," Montgomery said. "If they're out there against Draisaitl or McDavid, we're going to see what he can do, and then adapt from there if we have to."
McDavid's goal followed two prime short-handed chances by the Blues when Logan Mailloux took a tripping penalty in the third. Parayko found himself alone on Connor Ingram, but rang the crossbar on his bid. Alexey Toropchenko had a chance himself, but his attempt to go five-hole was stymied by Ingram.
Dvorsky sits
Rookie forward Dalibor Dvorsky was a healthy scratch on Friday night against the Oilers, as Nathan Walker and Tyler Tucker were also taken out of the lineup vs. Edmonton. In their places, Jonatan Berggren, Oskar Sundqvist and Justin Holl entered.
It was Dvorsky first scratch of the season, and Blues coach Jim Montgomery said before the game it was due to "the amount of games he's played." Dvorsky has played 72 total games this season between the NHL (55), AHL (6), Olympics (6), preseason (4) and prospect tournament (1).
"With us playing back-to-back and having a game Sunday afternoon again, we thought it was a good time to put him in a situation of success," Montgomery said. "We didn't think tonight would be a situation of success and Sunday would be."
After starring for Slovakia in the Olympics with six points in six games, Dvorsky did not have a point in his first eight games back from the break.
"He's had some games where, when his legs are on, he's been really good," Montgomery said. "And then he's had games where he looks tired. ... He hasn't had that time to reset."
Walker and Tucker's scratches came after both were central figures in Carolina's only goal of the game on Thursday in Raleigh.
It was Holl's second game with the Blues after arriving from the Red Wings in the Justin Faulk trade. Before coming to St. Louis, Holl spent the entire season in the AHL. The veteran right-handed defenseman will be an unrestricted free agent in the summer.
