'Our fans will love this player': Marner, Knights excited to join forces

LAS VEGAS — Mitch Marner said Tuesday he hopes to be the piece that helps the Golden Knights win another Stanley Cup.
The 28-year-old right wing was introduced at a news conference at City National Arena hours after the Knights announced they had acquired him in a sign-and-trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
“Honestly, the winning regimen they’ve put up the last five years and since they’ve been in the league, they’ve got such a competitive team every year,” Marner said. “It seemed like everything was a pretty good fit.”
Marner signed an eight-year, $96 million contract as part of the deal. His $12 million cap hit next season will be tied for the fifth-highest in the NHL and will be tied for the highest among wingers with Dallas’ Mikko Rantanen.
The Knights sent center Nicolas Roy to the Maple Leafs in the trade.
Marner, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2015 draft, had a career-high 104 points last season. He also received votes for the Selke Trophy for best defensive forward for the seventh year in a row.
“We’re getting one of the best forwards in the National Hockey League,” general manager Kelly McCrimmon said. “Our fans will love this player. He really adds to our team.”
Marner will wear No. 93 with the Knights. He donned his new jersey at his news conference Tuesday with his wife Stephanie, his 2-month-old son Miles and his parents Paul and Bonnie in attendance.
