Seahawks trade QB Sam Howell to Vikings

SEATTLE — A day after drafting Alabama’s Jalen Milroe in the third round of the NFL draft, the Seahawks thinned out their QB room by dealing Sam Howell to the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday morning.
The pick involved a swap of picks with the Seahawks getting 142 and dealing 172 to the Vikings.
So, basically, the Seahawks got to move up 30 spots to deal Howell to the Vikings.
The Seahawks still have four QBs on their roster in Sam Darnold, Drew Lock, Jaren Hall and Milroe, who was taken with the 92nd overall pick in the third round on Friday, the fourth QB taken in the draft.
“We were really pleased with Sam and his time here,’’ Seahawks assistant general manager Nolan Teasley told the media shortly after the trade was announced. “What happened yesterday (drafting Milroe) probably has some impact in that. We wish him the best and we’re really appreciative of the work that he put in while he was here. But just in terms of opportunity that’s best for him moving forward, what’s best for the organization, it came together.’’
Howell served as the Seahawks’ backup QB last year behind Geno Smith after being acquired in a swap of draft picks with Washington in March, 2024.
Howell played in just one game, taking over against Green Bay when Smith was injured and completing 5 of 14 passes for 24 yards with a touchdown.
