Auto review: 2025 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter tackles the Earth

Needing no introduction, Toyota has done one heck of a job recently in the SUV and truck market. Providing an array of vehicles to consumers has been its strong suit, along with unmatched reliability, dependability and usability. With GMC and other manufacturers expanding their off-road lineups, the 2025 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter is a strong contender in the market.

Powering the Trailhunter is a i-FORCE MAX 2.4-liter four-cylinder turbocharged hybrid paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This powering combination earns a lot of accolades, taking a turbocharged engine and aligning it with a hybrid and creating a whole lot of consumer wins.

As an off-road powerhouse, the Tacoma Trailhunter's standard equipment features are most impressive. A 4WDemand part time 4×4 system with two-speed electronically controlled transfer case, Monotube shocks, locking rear differentials and multi-terrain select for crawl control were great items we experienced on our week-long test. Not to mention a high clearance side-body mounted trail exhaust and multi-terrain monitor. The inside held nothing back either, fit for any terrain, the interior offered a great array of safety handles, SofTex trimmed heated and ventilated seats, a 14-inch easy to use, Toyota Audio Multimedia and Infotainment system, wireless charging and JBL stereo system.

The off-road truck category is exceptionally popular. For Toyota, adding the Trailhunter package to the already chart-topping Tacoma was a smart move. Yes, consumers will have to shell out $60K+ to get one, but the Trailhunter is certainly worth the spend.
