CHICAGO — “The Bear” is ending after the upcoming Season 5, according to a report from Deadline.

The FX show, led by Jeremy Allen White as a Chicago chef, debuted on the streaming service Hulu in 2022 and has since collected a whole plateful of awards — and put Chicago Italian beef on the map. But on Wednesday, Hollywood news service Deadline reported that an insider with the series, created by Christopher Storer, divulged on social media that the story of Carmy Berzatto and how he turned his family’s Italian beef shop The Beef into the gourmet restaurant The Bear is coming to a close.

The upcoming fifth season, expected to be released in June, had already been rumored to be the last. Season 4 concluded with Carmy quitting The Bear and telling fellow chef Syd, played by Ayo Edebiri, and cousin Richie, played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach, that he was retiring from the restaurant business.

Recurring guest star Jamie Lee Curtis recently posted a photo of herself and co-star Abby Elliott on the set of Season 5, writing: “FINISHED STRONG! Surrounded by an extraordinary crew and group of writers and producers and scene partners on the show that Chris Storer created, completing the story of this extraordinary family that we have all fallen in love with.”

“The Bear” also stars Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas and Matty Matheson. Storer modeled the original The Beef after Mr. Beef, a sandwich shop in the River North neighborhood, and the show has continued to film in Chicago. White previously said that Storer had planned to end the show after Season 4.

The show has won 21 Primetime Emmy Awards (including for outstanding comedy series) and 5 Golden Globes (including best musical or comedy television series).
