Television Q&A: Is there news to report on the 'CBS Saturday Morning' anchors?
Published in Entertainment News
You have questions. I have some answers.
Q: On “CBS Saturday Morning” there were two female anchors and now they are gone being replaced by two new anchors. I don't remember their names. Can you help me out?
A: You are remembering Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson, who had their last telecasts as “Saturday Morning” anchors in November after losing their jobs during one of the recent shakeups at CBS News. After some fill-in anchors, the main jobs were taken over by Adriana Diaz and Kelly O’Grady in January.
Q: I understand the newer version of “Perry Mason” on HBO has been canceled. I just finished the two seasons and walked away wanting more. Any hope of a resurfacing?
A: When it was canceled in 2023, star Matthew Rhys was reportedly “unequivocally enthusiastic” about revisiting the character. But I don’t know of any plans for a return, and Rhys has been seen elsewhere lately.
Q: We watched “Best in Show” the other night on Netflix to enjoy Catherine O'Hara's performance. I was certain that one of the judges was Richard Schiff of "West Wing" fame, but he is not credited, while the actor credited has a weird name and no other credits on IMDb. What am I missing?
A: Director Christopher Guest’s witty comedy about dog shows and the dogs’ owners added an air of authenticity by using some actual participants in such shows. One was Harold Pybus, a real-life dog show judge from Canada who resembles “The West Wing” star Schiff.
Q: I am probably the only person who does not know what the story is between two of my favorite entertainers, Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel. Can you explain their true relationship? They have often acted as if they are feuding. Please tell me if they are good friends out for a laugh.
A: Yes, it is all for laughs, and has been for more than 20 years.
Q: I really liked the first four seasons of “Babylon Berlin” and understand they have shot a fifth season. I haven’t been able to find out when it will air in the U.S. Can you help?
A: The drama about Germany in the years before World War II completed shooting on a fifth and final season in December. According to MHz Choice, where the series airs in the U.S. and Canada, it’s expected to premiere in Europe sometime this year, but “an exact North American premiere date is yet to be announced.” The series, for those of you tuning in late, is based on a series of novels by Volker Kutscher. Says MHz Choice: “The series follows police detective Gereon Rath (Volker Bruch) and flapper-turned-investigator Charlotte Ritter (Liv Lisa Fries) as they solve crimes in Weimar Germany, under the shadow of the rise of the Nazi Party.”
