Diane Keaton's cause of death confirmed by family

Diane Keaton’s cause of death has been confirmed by her family, four days after the legendary actress died unexpectedly at age 79.
“The Keaton family are very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11,” the family said in a statement to People on Wednesday.
The Oscar-winning actress was pronounced dead at a hospital after Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics were called to her home shortly after 8 a.m. on Saturday for reports of a “person down,” TMZ reported, citing 911 audio.
Her death was confirmed later that day by a family spokesperson, who declined at the time to offer any further information.
A source previously told People that Keaton’s health “declined very suddenly” and that her death came as a shock to most of those who knew her.
Despite friends saying she had lost a significant amount of weight in the last weeks of her life, “even longtime friends weren’t fully aware of what was happening,” the insider said.
Keaton reportedly died surrounded only by her closest family, including her two kids, daughter Dexter and son Duke, whom she adopted in 1996 and 2001, respectively.
