Timothy Busfield accused of additional sex abuse of girl in California

Actor Timothy Busfield is accused of also sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl in Northern California several years ago, authorities said in court documents seeking to keep the “West Wing” actor behind bars in his child sex abuse case in New Mexico.
Busfield, 68, has been charged with criminal sexual contact and abuse of a child for his alleged actions with two young boys between 2022 and 2024. He turned himself in on Tuesday but declared his innocence.
New Mexico authorities are seeking to keep Busfield behind bars ahead of his trial and cited the California case as a reason to keep him locked up, according to court documents obtained by Deadline.
Busfield “has a documented pattern of sexual misconduct, abuse of authority and grooming behavior,” New Mexico prosecutors wrote.
That included a report on Tuesday from a man, Colin Swift, who said his daughter was abused by Busfield “several years ago” while auditioning at the B Street Theatre in Sacramento, California.
Busfield kissed Swift’s daughter, then put his hands down her pants and touched her inappropriately, Swift told authorities. Busfield then begged the Swift family to let him go to therapy instead of reporting him to police, and they agreed, according to Colin Swift.
The filing also cites prior accusations of sexual assault against Busfield, dating to 1994 and 2012. Those accusations, involving a 17-year-old girl and a 28-year-old woman, did not lead to criminal charges.
“I did not do anything to those little boys and I’m gonna fight it,” Busfield said in a video before turning himself in. “I’m gonna fight it with a great team, and I’m gonna be exonerated, I know I am, because this is all so wrong and all lies.”
An initial hearing in the case was set for Wednesday, in which Busfield was expected to plead not guilty.
