Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, fresh from a meeting with President Donald Trump on Friday, touted her country’s “good relationship” with the U.S. in a political rally to commemorate her party’s anniversary.

Reiterating her comments in Washington, Sheinbaum said she’s “convinced” that the USMCA trade agreement will remain in place as the countries prepare to negotiate its revision in 2026.

“Both economies need each other to be able to compete with other regions in the world,” Sheinbaum said at the event before supporters in the Zocalo, the enormous square in Mexico City’s historic center, according to an official transcript of her speech. The government, in a separate statement, said that 600,000 people were in attendance.

Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney met privately with Trump for 45 minutes after the World Cup draw on Friday in Washington. Trump, who said beforehand that he planned to discuss trade and immigration, said of his fellow leaders that they “had a tremendous relationship.”

At Saturday’s event, Sheinbaum also lauded her government’s social programs, which she said have reduced inequality, promoted labor rights and reduced violent crime.
