Publix recalls ice cream after a possibly 'serious or life-threatening' mistake

Publix recalled one lot of ice cream in six states because the product inside doesn’t match the container — and that can be a problem with the worst consequences for some customers.

The container is for Publix Rich & Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream. That doesn’t have egg, which is an allergen. What’s inside the recalled lot might be Rich & Creamy French Vanilla Ice Cream. That has egg.

So, ice cream with an allergen might be in a container that doesn’t list egg among the allergens. What’s not a problem for most people can be a massive problem for folks with an egg allergy.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product,” Publix’s recall announcement states.

The recall covers the lot of Rich & Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream with a June 19, 2026, sell-by date. The lid on the ice cream might have the lid for the French Vanilla flavor. This recall covers stores in Florida — except in Tampa, Sarasota, Jacksonville and Tallahassee. It also covers stores in South Carolina, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee.

If you have the recalled ice cream and there’s any chance someone with an egg allergy might eat it, return it to the store for a refund.
