Tropical Storm Lorenzo nears the end of its life in the open Atlantic
Published in News & Features
MIAMI — Wednesday might be the final day for Tropical Storm Lorenzo, which has continued to weaken in the face of aggressive wind shear in the open Atlantic.
The storm is still on track to stay far away from any occupied land, but as of Wednesday’s 5 a.m. update from the National Hurricane Center, forecasters now only expect it to survive until the early hours of Thursday morning at the latest.
“The dynamical guidance continues to indicate that Lorenzo will degenerate to a trough due to shear and dry air intrusion, with most of the models showing this happening during the next 24 h,” they wrote in the 5 a.m. update.
As of Monday morning, the storm had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.
