Shots fired in Manhattan, police officer shot

NEW YORK — A police officer and two civilians have been shot in midtown Manhattan in an active shooter situation, police said.
The shooting happened at Park Ave. and 51st St. around 6:30 p.m., cops said.
Police sources say that the man entered the building at 345 Park Ave. and started shooting, striking a police officer and two civilians. The building is the headquarters of global investment company Blackstone.
Mayor Eric Adams warned New Yorkers to avoid the area in a post reading, “New Yorkers: there is an active shooter investigation taking place in Midtown right now. Please take proper safety precautions if you are in vicinity and do not go outside if you are near Park Avenue and East 51st Street.”
The police officer and one civilian are in critical condition at Bellevue, a source said. The other civilian is seriously hurt but stable.
The FBI is responding to the situation.
The shooter was reportedly wearing a bulletproof vest and armed with a rife.
