NYC Mayor Adams waves off concerns about Trump's threats against Mamdani

NEW YORK — Mayor Eric Adams waved off concerns about President Trump’s false insinuation that Zohran Mamdani is an illegal immigrant and his threat to arrest the Democratic mayoral nominee if he got in the way of ICE agents.
“I don’t want to talk about this other stuff,” Adams said Wednesday in response to a question on whether he would condemn Trump’s threats, adding that he wanted to discuss affordable housing, supermarkets and Rikers Island instead.
“Look at my record. Go Google me, and then you can get the answer to the question.”
On Tuesday, Trump questioned Mamdani’s citizenship and said that he’d have Mamdani arrested if he interfered with federal immigration enforcement efforts.
Mamdani, who is expected to face off against Adams in the November general election, slammed this response, saying the city’s leaders should attempt to bring the temperature down but that “we have a mayor who is doing exactly the opposite.”
“I do not need Eric Adams to agree with me, but … this (is) beyond the pale,” Mamdani said at a labor rally. “It showcases the ways in which he has sacrificed the city and all that we stand for in the interests of himself.”
Adams previously vowed he wouldn’t disparage the president publicly and has been attacked for his willingness to cooperate with Trump.
