Tech review: A fun way to scoot around town
Published in Business News
My wife is quite happy for me to be the gadget hound in our family.
She’s a reluctant adopter of technology, but she’s quite happy when I introduce her to something she really loves.
Every so often she’ll stake a claim on something I’m reviewing after she sees me trying it out, which was exactly the case of my unboxing the Gyroor C1Plus Electric Scooter.
I unboxed and assembled the C1Plus when my wife wasn’t home, and she came home to find me riding it.
“Do you think that’s something I could ride?” said asked?
We adjusted the seat and I showed her the controls and she took off like a pro.
I knew I’d my riding time would now be limited.
I have an electric bike that I love to ride, so I was secretly hoping the C1Plus would appeal to her so we could ride together.
Mission accomplished.
Specs
The C1Plus is a workhorse scooter with adjustable seat and handlebars that fold down so you can toss it in your back seat or trunk and take it along when you travel.
It is a commuter scooter, but it’s also built for cargo, because it comes with two baskets – one that sits in the area between your legs and a smaller basket behind the seat.
The photos from Gyroor show people hauling pets in the big basket. I don’t have a dog to try out that feature, but all the dogs in the photos look like they’re having a great time. They do include a thick pad for the bottom of the basket so your pets have a comfy ride.
If you’re running to the grocery store, the large basket will be very helpful.
Note, the big basket is removable with a screwdriver, which is good if you are not needing to carry cargo.
Mounting the basket between your legs is a good use of the space, but the height and width of the basket might be uncomfortable for shorter riders. If you’re riding to the grocery store, you can easily bring home three or four bags of groceries.
The scooter has a 650-watt motor with a peak performance of 1,000 watts which will get you down the road at speeds up to 18.6 miles-per-hour.
The integrated 48-volt battery has a capacity of 13.5 amp-hour with a maximum range of 30 miles.
The C1Plus can handle a max load of 300 pounds (rider and cargo) and will work for people from 5’1” to 6’5”.
The scooter has 14” tires and dual shocks on the rear for a comfortable ride. It has mechanical disc brakes (front and rear).
There are LED headlights and taillights.
I’m 6’2” and my wife 5’2”, and we both could find very comfortable riding positions.
The throttle is controlled from the right hand grip and you interact with the scooter’s settings via a small LED screen to adjust the riding mode. The three modes change the top speed of the scooter. The screen also features an odometer and a battery level.
Assembly
The C1Plus shows up in a big box. It weighs 63 pounds, which is hefty, but not too hard to roll up and down the four stairs from my front porch to the sidewalk.
The scooter is mostly assembled. You have to attach the handle bars, which is the trickiest part. Gyroor includes little stickers with arrows you have to line up to make sure the handlebar and wheels are aligned.
The baskets attach with screws and you have to plug in the brake/tail light.
The non-removable battery is concealed under the frame and the included charger take about five hours to charge up the battery. It has over-voltage/under-voltage and overheating protection for safe charging.
In use
This scooter is really easy to ride.
I’ve owned motorcycles and I now have an electric bike, so I didn’t have any issues adjusting to riding the C1 Plus, but my wife is a total novice.
She loves her bicycle, but since her knee replacements, her knees don’t have the range of motion to let her comfortably ride. She surprised me when she asked to try out this scooter and she really loves it.
The seat adjusts far enough down where she can comfortably place her feet flat on the ground when the scooter is not moving, which is important for rider safety.
She likes putting her feet on the flat bottom of the scooter, so we took off the big basket for her.
This scooter would be great for running up to the store or riding pathways or trails around your neighborhood. It’s easy enough to take along on a camping trip or even commuting to work.
The Gyroor C1Plus lists for $855.95 but right now there’s a winter sale that brings the price down significantly. Check gyroor.com for details and current pricing. Check the bundles that lower the price and even offer discounts for buying a pair so you and your spouse can both ride.
